Starboard Fusion 725

Over the past few years, foil design has largely followed one direction: higher aspect ratios, more glide and greater efficiency. The new Starboard Fusion 725 takes a different approach. With its 7.6 aspect ratio, it's unapologetically focused on maneuverability and wave riding rather than chasing maximum glide. After several sessions paired with the tail wing BC 155 and BC 155 short and the 88cm “solid core” carbon mast, it became clear that the Fusion is definitely built for riders who simply want to carve and have fun.

The Fusion immediately feels compact under your feet. Lift builds progressively and the foil feels extremely composed once flying. One characteristic stood out almost instantly: the front foot pressure. Compared to many modern foils, the Fusion carries noticeably less pressure on the front foot. At first, this requires a short adaptation period, particularly at medium speeds where many riders naturally expect a little more feedback from the front wing. After a few runs, however, that balance starts to make sense. Especially as speed increases, because the top speed of the 725 fusion seems to be unlimited.

There's no doubt the Fusion's strongest quality is turn and carve. The relatively compact span and medium aspect ratio allow the foil to roll effortlessly into tight, committed turns. The turning radius feels surprisingly small while the foil continues to provide reassuring support throughout the carve. Even when pushing hard through tighter sections, the Fusion remains composed and predictable. For riders who enjoy surfing waves rather than simply connecting them, this character is genuinely enjoyable. The foil invites dynamic direction changes instead of long, drawn-out lines.

As speed builds, the lighter front-foot feeling becomes one of the foil's greatest strengths. Rather than constantly generating excessive lift, the Fusion stays remarkably neutral. The foil accelerates confidently without feeling like it's trying to jump out of the water. That neutral trim gives a reassuring feeling during fast bottom turns. The longer tail wing BC155 will give you a bit more low-end and glide, opening a wider wind range if you think you’ll need a bit more low-end, or the waves aren’t that powerful.

One area where Starboard continues to impress is the overall build quality. The mast-to-fuselage connection feels exceptionally solid. Everything locks together with complete confidence, creating a rigid platform with excellent steering precision. The complete setup does feel slightly heavier than some of today's premium modular carbon systems, but that solid construction also contributes to the really reassuring ride quality on the water.

The Fusion 725 doesn't follow the current trend towards ever-higher aspect ratios. Instead, it embraces a more traditional philosophy centered around carving, predictability and control. It rewards an active riding style, encourages committed turns and remains remarkably composed throughout the maneuver. In a market increasingly dominated by ultra-efficient foils, the Fusion offers something refreshingly different. For riders whose sessions revolve around wave riding, playful turns and powered conditions, it delivers exactly what its design promises.
