I’ve been wearing wetsuits since I was 10 years old so I was hyped to test this one and how it compares to the many brands I have worn over the years. When it comes to combining eco-innovation and high performance, Soöruz has carved out a strong reputation. Their latest wetsuit, the Guru, is no exception designed for riders who demand both flexibility and durability. I took it out for a few sessions to see how it holds up, especially in the context of foiling and winging, where mobility and lightweight gear are really important.
Right out of the box, the Guru feels premium. Soöruz has crafted it using their Oysterprene technology, a next-gen material derived from oyster shell powder, a smart eco-friendly alternative to traditional neoprene. This new generation of Oysterprene is lighter, warmer, and more flexible than previous versions. Stitching and finish are top-notch, seams are glued, and reinforced with ultra-soft, flexible neoprene tape inside for durability and waterproofing. The attention to detail is clear even the chest zip is refined for easier access without compromising on flush resistance.
On the water, the flexibility of the Guru is clearly standing out. Whether pumping for speed on a downwinder or carving tight turns on the wing, the wetsuit moves naturally with your body. There’s virtually no resistance around the shoulders, arms, or knees, key areas for foilers who constantly shift their stance and weight distribution. Let’s talk now about the warmth. Tested in water temperatures between 13°C and 15°C, the Guru provided consistent insulation without feeling bulky. This makes it an ideal option for spring and fall sessions, where a thicker suit might feel too heavy for a dynamic sport like foiling. Bonus point for the drying time, which is super quick too. After a morning session, I left it in the sun and found it almost fully dry within a few hours, a real add-on for back-to-back rides.
Soöruz has gone further than most brands in minimizing environmental impact. In addition to the oyster-based neoprene, the Guru uses water-based glues and recycled polyester linings. Even the production methods aim to reduce the overall carbon footprint. When I met one of the bosses, Yann, you can really tell that the eco conception is part of their DNA at Soöruz, and not just a trend.
All in all, the Soöruz Guru is a wetsuit that feels tailor-made for foilers: ultra-flexible, warm, lightweight, and responsibly manufactured. It's clearly designed for demanding riders who want high performance without sacrificing sustainability. Whether you're chasing swell, perfecting your downwind skills, or just clocking endless hours on the foil, the Guru is a serious contender
