Sabfoil Sea Devil 780 Blackbird

We’ve been using the Sabfoil Sea Devil 780 as our go-to front wing in the surf for the last few weeks. From the first session, it felt alive under our feet – direct, responsive, and clearly tuned for riders who like to actively drive the foil, clearly sitting in the maneuver-focused end of Sabfoil’s lineup. One of the defining traits of the Sea Devil 780 – and something you really feel on the water – is its front-wing geometry, especially the more pronounced angle of its wingtip and compact shape. Visually and dynamically, it almost has a stealth-like character: compact, purposeful, and clearly optimized for control rather than pure efficiency.

From the first sessions, this foil felt compact and precise. Compared to higher-aspect front wings, the reduced span is immediately noticeable in how quickly it reacts to roll input. There’s no feeling of excess span working against you in transitions or during aggressive direction changes. The Sea Devil 780 is definitely a maneuver machine. Compared to flatter, high-aspect wings, the Sea Devil 780 sacrifices a bit of raw glide and maximum efficiency. But what it gives back is maneuverability at speed, and that’s where the analogy with a combat jet really fits. Just like a fighter aircraft is designed to remain controllable and agile at high speeds – rather than maximize fuel efficiency – the Sea Devil 780 is tuned to stay responsive, stable and predictable when pushed hard.

This wing delivers confidence, precision and speed control. It reacts instantly to roll input, it holds lift through tight carves, it doesn’t wash out or over-accelerate mid-turn, which is exactly what we want in a wave-oriented setup. Not a front wing built around early lift or effortless glide, but more a front wing that rewards active riding, good speed management, and deliberate input. The Sea Devil 780’s geometry delivers exactly that. The steeper working angle helps the wing bite into the turn, maintaining lift even as the direction of travel changes rapidly. This makes carving feel confident and deliberate rather than forced. You can push into a turn at speed, knowing the wing will stay loaded. Then the increased angle of the wing tips allows the wing to generate usable lift at higher speeds without flattening out. Instead of becoming neutral or dead-feeling once speed builds, the wing stays engaged and manageable. That means when riding a wave fast, the foil doesn’t suddenly feel like it’s outrunning its own lift or demanding exaggerated foot pressure to stay locked in.

The Sea Devil 780 feels like a wing designed with intentional priorities. Its stealth-like shape and higher working angle don’t chase numbers on a spec sheet – they chase ride quality when things get fast and dynamic. Moreover, the Blackbird integrated-fuselage system also steps things up. What stood out most to us is how the Blackbird actively participates in lift and trim, rather than just connecting components. Takeoffs happen earlier and more cleanly, even with the relatively compact surface of the Sea Devil 780. At higher speeds, the difference becomes even more obvious. Cavitation is minimized, trim stays consistent, and the foil remains composed without constant micro-corrections. Structurally, the Blackbird adds a lot of confidence, too. The wide, flat profile and aerospace-inspired geometry deliver excellent torsional stiffness – you can feel the directional rigidity immediately. There’s no twisty, delayed response between the front wing and the stabilizer. Inputs feel clean and direct, and even hard landings or abrupt touches don’t unsettle the system.

Overall, the Blackbird system doesn’t just refine the Sea Devil 780 – it extends its operating range. The setup goes further with less effort, feels faster in downwind lines, more stable in bump-and-jump conditions, and more efficient everywhere else. It turns the Sea Devil 780 into a more complete, higher-performance mixed-use wing without changing its core character.

The Sabfoil Sea Devil 780 is a foil to reach for when you want a direct, technical feel under your feet. It doesn’t try to do everything, and that’s exactly its strength. It prioritizes control, speed handling and carving precision over early lift and glide. We genuinely enjoyed riding it. It feels fast, precise and confidence-inspiring, and it rewards good technique without ever feeling punishing. If your idea of a good session involves carving hard, riding powered, and feeling exactly what the foil is doing under your feet, the Sea Devil 780 delivers that in an incredibly satisfying way.
