Cabrinha Whippit

If you caught our last issue, you probably noticed Cabrinha’s latest foil range, the all-new Union series. By licensing the original Mikeslab connection, Cabrinha has integrated a sophisticated, streamlined interface across their entire foil lineup. What makes it special? In short, it’s an exceptionally clean and clever design: the front wing and tail connect with a single screw, and the whole assembly mounts to the mast using just a couple more. It’s a clean, clever, lightweight and incredibly rigid system, all executed in high-modulus carbon fiber. While we covered the Prestige series last time, today we’re diving into the high-performance Whippit 750.

We had to wait a few days for proper windy conditions to test it with a wing, as we expected this size to be challenging in lighter wind. Our first session was in around 20 knots, and honestly, the waterstart on a sinker board was as easy as it gets. Within the first few meters, it was clear the foil is fast and highly responsive to our input. While it took a handful of jibes to calibrate to its sensitivity, we felt completely at home super quickly – pretty remarkable for a relatively small and high performance foil which you might expect to need a few sessions in to dial in to.

The foil really comes alive at higher speeds, delivering long, fast runs that are insanely fun without the feeling of having any drag. Adapting to its speed took some time when setting up for jumps and tricks, but after a few attempts, we got the hang of it. Glide is solid for a wing of this size, but it’s definitely a foil that prefers to be driven fast. Pumping isn’t its strongest point, but let’s not forget, this is a 750. Overall, our first impression of this front wing was very positive, leaving us eager to get back on the water the following day, especially with some waves lining up at our local spot.

As promised, waves arrived the following day, this time with slightly less wind. Unsurprisingly, waterstarts became a bit more demanding, as this front wing needs some horizontal speed to get flying. Once up, however, it turned into an absolute wave machine. The combination of speed and extremely pivotal turns made the session pure surf madness, allowing us to link sections effortlessly without any help from the wing.

In the surf particularly, it is in its maneuverability where this foil truly shines and, if you have the skills, then you will be rewarded. With precise foot pressure and an experienced touch it truly lights up… While we occasionally felt the limitations of its glide and pumping efficiency during the lulls, these are expected tradeoffs for a wing of this size and the up sides far outweigh the compromises.

Throughout the testing period, we had the chance to test the Whippit 750 across multiple sessions, including a few on a kite. We can confidently say it’s an excellent premium choice for experienced riders who regularly ride in powered conditions and prioritize speed and agility. Whether on a wing, kite, tow or any speed-assisted discipline, the Whippit lives up to its name and truly comes alive – you can really whip it around!

Overall, the Whippit delivers maximum fun, especially when surfing waves. And for riders who like to mix disciplines like we do, this 750 is a must-try, eliminating the need for multiple front wings to cover different disciplines.
