AFS Stream One

AFS just released the new Stream One, a wing clearly built with one idea in mind: making wingfoiling easier and more efficient in real-world conditions. In a market where every new wing is pushing lighter materials and higher stiffness, AFS took a slightly different direction here. Instead of chasing pure performance, the Stream One focuses on accessibility, comfort and efficiency, which honestly makes a lot of sense for most riders.

This new Stream One takes a lot from the DNA of the original Stream, but in a more accessible package. For this test I used it in different winging conditions, from lighter wind to stronger sessions, to really see where this wing prevails and who it’s built for. What stands out immediately is how natural the wing feels in your hands. Straight away you get that balanced feeling where the wing almost disappears and sits naturally where it should without needing constant corrections. That’s probably the biggest strength of this Stream One – everything feels intuitive. You’re not fighting the wing, you’re just riding. Bonus point: the windows are in the perfect position to see through and avoid contact with other riders.

Construction-wise, the main difference with the premium Stream is the Dacron leading edge instead of UPE. On paper you might expect to lose some stiffness, but on the water it doesn’t feel like a downgrade. AFS adjusted the diameter of the leading edge on the bigger sizes to keep the structure stable, and it works well. The wing stays solid under load, handles gusts properly, and remains forgiving when your positioning is not perfect. It feels like a smart choice rather than a compromise. And honestly I felt way less muscle soreness in my arms after a long session.

Flagging out is another area where the Stream One feels really comfortable. Once flagged out, the wing stays stable, drifts naturally and doesn’t move around too much, plus the rigidity of the handle gives you control while surfing. In waves or when riding swell, you can fully focus on your foil and your line without thinking too much about the wing.

Handling wise, everything feels smooth and controlled. The turns are easy and natural, not super explosive or ultra-reactive, but clean and predictable. The wing is clearly designed around control and comfort rather than aggressive performance. That makes transitions easier and the whole riding experience less tiring. This is not a wing for someone looking for maximum stiffness, extreme top-end or pure racing performance. But for progressing riders, intermediate riders or even experienced riders looking for a reliable everyday wing, it makes a lot of sense, especially for those sessions where conditions are not perfect, and realistically those are the sessions we get the most.

Overall, what I liked most about the Stream One is how easy it makes everything feel. Earlier takeoffs, less physical effort, smooth handling and solid drift – it’s one of those wings you end up using a lot because it simply makes getting on the water easier and more enjoyable. And honestly, that’s probably what most riders are looking for, myself included!
