The Stream, the latest creation from the AFS Lab, is a wing dedicated to surfing and free-fly. AFS had already made a strong impression with the Diamond V2 a high-performance wing focused on freeride, freestyle, and wave. The Diamond V2 delivered a direct, responsive ride with excellent power control and twist stability. It was all about precision, efficiency, and versatility, especially for experienced riders pushing boundaries across disciplines. The Stream, by contrast, is shifting the focus toward free-fly and surf-style riding, less about raw performance, more about glide, lightness, and effortless control when the wing is neutral. In a way, it feels like AFS took everything they learned from the Diamond’s handling and build quality and applied it to a wing that’s designed to disappear in your hands once you’re up and gliding.
What’s surprising at first when you grab it on the beach is how light and neutral this wing feels in your hand. Take off is easy, power delivery is instantaneous and comes from the center which is really helpful for take-off in light winds. Once riding the wing is fast, I couldn’t make the wing over sheet, I was sheeting in forever and the only thing that it did was make me go faster and faster. It’s quite a front hand pressure wing; even when the wind picks up or gets gusty, the wing stays surprisingly composed. No flapping, no backhand surprises just clean power that’s easy to manage. Now the downwind part, it drifts incredibly well when flagged out. Whether you're riding open ocean bumps or small waves, it stays where it should, quietly, lightly, and totally non-intrusive. The light material on the strut makes a huge difference and nothing is dragging behind you. Because of the compact wingspan and boom setup, the wing transitions are super fluid. No tip catches, no awkward weight shifts it just goes where you want it, and tack and jibes are super smooth.
The more I ride, the more I like wings that are made for surfing. In light, light wind the Stream can be slightly picky in the positioning of your hand on the boom to avoid a front stall, but this only happens in the low end of the wind window, and you just have to slide your hand down to avoid it. It’s the kind of wing you can hand to someone with basic skills and they’ll feel comfortable right away but it still has enough glide and finesse to keep expert riders stoked. Something else that’s also worth mentioning: the boom detaches quickly when deflated, making packing and transporting it way easier than expected for a boom-only wing.
The Stream is a wing that puts feel and glide first. It’s light in the hands, super intuitive in transitions, and almost invisible when flagged out – exactly what you want for surf and free-fly sessions. Whether you're cruising bumps or linking turns, it delivers a super clean, connected experience. If you’re into wings that disappear when you don't need them, the Stream just might be your new favorite.
