North release the Ranger parawing

North join in on the parawing craze with their Ranger model, with plenty of exclusive features of its own…

North is thrilled to announce the official launch of the Ranger Parawing, engineered to open up the exhilarating world of downwind foiling to a wider audience.

The Ranger is a super short-bridled single-skin kite that provides a compact and easily deployable wind power source, so riders can effortlessly catch swells and experience the pure joy of surfing the open ocean.

The North Parawing has been engineered by the team at North and extensively tested by riders across the globe. Lightweight, intuitive and simple to launch and deploy (even for beginners) the Ranger has a number of exclusive features, including D-Ribs for optimal load distribution and a unique Depower Tab, which allows riders to safely and easily collapse the canopy when overpowered. It also comes with a lightweight, water-resistant backpack designed for on-water use, capable of holding one or two parawings and featuring straps for carrying a deflated wind wing.

Parawinging differs significantly from wing foiling. Instead of holding an inflatable wing, riders use a lightweight carbon bar connected to the parawing via short bridle lines. This setup generates a direct downwind pull, freeing the rider from constantly manoeuvring a wing to get up onto foil. Once on a swell, the parawing can be depowered and stashed in its lightweight backpack, offering a completely unrestricted surfing experience.

“I really believe that the parawing is going to open downwind foiling up for anybody. The fact that you don't need a paddle makes it way easier. And the fact that you don't have the wing in front of you – you know, like flying around and bothering you a bit, is going to make it way more enjoyable.”
– North Pro Rider Fabian Muhmenthaler.

Key Features and Benefits of the Ranger:

  • Ultimate Freedom: Experience surfing swells without the hassle of a paddle or wing
  • Compact and Portable: The lightweight, full-canopy design with no rigid structures makes the parawing incredibly easy to pack into its included slimline on-water backpack. The backpack can hold up to two parawings.
  • Effortless Deployment and Retrieval: The extra-short bridle lines ensure quick and easy launching and stowing. The color-coded canopy and bridles, along with a black leading edge, provide fast visual orientation.
  • Stable and Responsive Performance: North's exclusive D-Rib technology provides diagonal canopy support, ensuring optimal load distribution and stability, even when depowering. This also allows the parawing to react to subtle steering input.
  • Intuitive Control and Safety: The lightweight carbon bar offers intuitive steering and power control. The Depower Tab, an industry first, acts as a handbrake to safely collapse the canopy when overpowered and can be hooked onto the bar for sustained depowering.
  • Enhanced Safety: The parawing can also serve as a rescue device for wing foilers, prone paddlers, or e-foilers, providing wind power to get back to shore in case of equipment failure.
  • Versatile Applications: Beyond downwind foiling, the Ranger can be enjoyed on the beach, with mountain boards, skateboards, snowboards, skis, and even for gaining an initial boost for paddle sessions or surfing waves.

Who is the North Ranger Parawing For?

The North Ranger Parawing is ideal for anyone who loves the ocean and the thrill of riding swells. While prior wind sports experience can be helpful, the intuitive design makes it accessible even for beginners. Prone foilers, kitesurfers, and those with good board control will likely find it easy to pick up. It's also a fantastic tool for experienced foilers looking for a new and pure way to enjoy downwinders.
