DESERT WINDS: Downwind Foiling the Ningaloo

We interviewed Hugh Mitchell about his “Desert Winds” film in issue #24. Now you can rent the film and watch yourself…

Foilers Andrew Readhead, Jon Donisi, Julian Bradley and Hugh Mitchell take on a downwind foil mission from Red Bluff to Mildura Wreck, covering over 300 km of a remote desert coastline in North Western Australia. With no access to cell reception, no boat support and carrying all food and water on their backs, the boys find themselves as far as 12km out to sea. James Bennett and Jarvis Banfield join them for the expedition, scoring world-class waves and fishing on pristine sand beaches. This film dives into the good, the bad and the beauty of this life-changing expedition, taking you every step of the way. Are you ready for the adventure?

Desert Winds toured around Australia with Premiere Screenings in Perth, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne and Adelaide with a total live audience of over 700 people. A world-first tour for a foiling film. It is The Foil Project's first long-form production film, and has been entered into the Ocean Film Festival for next year. This film has been in the making for over 9 months, from the conception of the trip to the 5-day full-on journey, to hundreds of hours of editing, and then touring across Australia – it has been the adventure of a lifetime.

5% of all ticket sales will be donated to Protect Ningaloo. Let's keep these beautiful reefs alive!

A massive thank you to everyone who supports this film; it would not be possible without you. To the sponsors of The Foil Shop, Code Foils, Sunova, LIP Sunglasses, and Vaikobi, thank you for your support in making the production of this film possible.

So sit back, relax and enjoy the adventure!
