Getting Lifty in Côte d’Azur | Episode 1

Exclusive new web series by Alex Maes and Alexander Lewis-Hughes.

The Lift Côte d’Azur web-series will be in four installments, with a little surprise at the end. The series takes you on our journey around the South of France and among some of the most picturesque and unique locations, all from the comfort of your home.

Alex Maes (Lift Foils):

"With this new web-series, we wanted to showcase the potential in the south of France for eFoiling. I knew there were some really nice spots to foil in the south of France so I rang up my good friend Diego and Kiteboarding videographer Alex to come along for the ride.

"Covid certainly changed a lot of things but searching out some sessions at a new spots with some good friends didn’t, there’s still a whole liquid world out there to explore and I was keen to get amongst it. We drove a hard trip, everyday doing some serious driving to reach new spots and meet up with new friends and distributors. It such an amazing area to check out that I think we really only scratched the surface of what’s there to see."

This first episode takes you to St-Tropez Port, an iconic spot in the Côte d’Azur, where the boys met with some eFoil partners and filmed a little content around the Port. “It felt good to fly after a good 12-hour ride and, of course, eat our first proper baguette...” - Alex Maes.

Alexander Lewis-Hughes (videographer):

"I got a message from Alex asking if I wanted to come on this trip with him to shoot eFoiling… at first I was a little hesitant because usually I’m out there shooting kiteboarding or wake/skate type stuff that I think is a lot more action-based, I wasn’t sure about whether it would be interesting enough for me, or whether I could make some decent videos out of it.

It turns out that eFoiling is not only pretty fun to do but you also get to travel to some really cool spots that I wouldn’t have otherwise ever been to. It was warm, sunny, no wind mostly, just like a nice holiday except I had to document the whole thing! It turned out to be a fun project and I was stoked with how all the videos came out. I think there’s a lot of potential in eFoil as a fun exploration tool, it’s like a next level jetski only quiet and flying! haha."

Enjoy this first episode and some of our imagery along the road the search for new spots never stops as Lift Foils have now made every bay rideable.

Where would you go if you could choose any spot? Tune in next week to find out what spots we hit up next, in the best foiling magazine...

State of Play: Surf foiling and the Connection with Nature

Any “new” form of wave riding that shows up in the line-up is bound to raise a few eyebrows – and, I’d argue more often than not, meet a fair bit of skepticism or even outright disdain from whoever the mainstream crowd happens to be out there. On occasion that reaction might be justified. More often though, it’s not. But as Noé Cantaloube argues in this piece, when it comes to surf foiling, it’s worth looking a little deeper – and maybe even giving it a go – before jumping to conclusions.

Flight Path: Phil Lewis

Artist Phil Lewis’s journey to the foil was much like many others – via other board/wind sports, earning his stripes on lakes in California and Colorado. But it was a trip to Nicaragua in 2023 that cemented Phil’s love affair with foiling… which has also now found its way into his art in quite interesting ways.
