Open since 2011, the Surf Shack at Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa is a world-class facility on the resort’s mile-long Anse de Sables Beach and one of the best wingfoiling and kitesurfing destinations during the season, November–July.
The Surf Shack team uses mostly 2022/23 Naish equipment and utilizes a state-of-the-art, two-way radio communication system allowing the instructors and students to have real-time communication and feedback during lessons. In addition to equipment rental, guests are welcomed to bring their own gear and for a $25 Daily Facility Fee will receive equipment storage, air compressor usage, assisted launching and landing, and boat rescue and supervision. These are great minds with easy riding on flat shallow water inside of the reef for beginner and intermediate enthusiasts, and more waves outside of the reef where experienced riders can take on the Atlantic Swell. All skill levels have an easy launch from the Surf Shack’s beachfront staging area.
When not on the water, guests enjoy a wide range of all-inclusive facilities and amenities at Coconut Bay including the choice of family-friendly and adults-only accommodation, a full schedule of daily and evening activities, and more.
THE LOWDOWN
Saint Lucia’s Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa, in the eastern Caribbean, is an exciting and new destination for foilers. Straight off the flight, we are located just 5 minutes from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF). Being blessed by the trade winds it is almost impossible to hit our spot and not get 15-25 knots in our season. The wind blows consistently side-onshore which makes entry and exit super easy. We have a protective reef that breaks the surf, making it easy for beginners to stay balanced while learning to sail. There is a channel the locals will show you that takes you beyond the reef barrier. It has amazing consistent swells which gives you the sensation of coasting while letting go of the wing, especially important for advanced riders. We have experienced wingfoilers ready to assist; be it with tips for beginners or advanced riders.
FOILING SET UP
Our location is suitable for wing foiling and kitesurfing beginners, intermediate and advanced riders. We have a protected reef about 200 meters from our shoreline which blocks incoming surf. Our beachfront Surf Shack staging area and school is a 3-minute walk up the beach. You set up your foil rigs and take 10 steps and you are in the water! This place is paradise for riders because you have the spot to yourself, there are no sail boats, no jet skis, no other activities with power boats, just you.
WHEN IS BEST TO GO?
On-shore, 15-25 knot winds from the Atlantic make Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa’s Surf Shack one of the best wing foiling destinations during the season, November – July. These are great winds with easy riding in our protected bay inside of the reef for beginner and intermediate enthusiasts, and more waves outside of the reef where experienced riders can take on the Atlantic swell. All skill levels have an easy launch from the Surf Shack’s beachfront staging area.
NO WIND?
At the Surf Shack we have an undefeated spike ball duo who will take on a challenge on light wind days. Light wind days also give us the opportunity to snorkel the reef to see underwater life including turtles, snapper, and a World War II plane wreck. Coconut Bay’s activities make the most of its ample outdoor space including kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, pickleball, tennis, basketball, oceanfront yoga, Pilates, volleyball and more. Facilities also include five pools and the island’s largest waterpark.
International flights arrive at Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), just five minutes from the resort.
4.5 or 5m / 125L board for beginners. 5 or 6m / 90L board for intermediates. Masts should ideally be below 85cm.
Wetsuit…?! Nothing but swimsuits or rash guards needed!
Included as part of your all-inclusive stay, even at the beach bar! Outside the resort a beer is US$2.
Your all-inclusive stay means unlimited à la carte and buffet dining at eight restaurants using the freshest ingredients and catering for all dietary needs.
