Record Downwinder- Official Guinness Attempt

There's been an insane amount of distance travelled for a new foil downwinder… with an official Guinness World Record Attempt, Dimitris Apalagakis is here to set the record straight!


299,03km on foil! An official Guinness Attempt- 9.8.23-a day to remember!

This year the goal was to go for the world record on foil in a downwind course! So I decided to prepare and go for it by doing the Athens to Crete crossing which could fit such a distance. After over 4 months of training, a proper forecast allowed me to make the decision to go!

It was probably the hardest thing I have ever done not only physically, where I was fully prepared and endured, but mostly mentally. It was a long day with a lot of changes in the weather part and a lot of pain which required my full focus and a good mindset.

After 13:29:04 hours and 299.03km I just couldn’t believe it that I endured the pain and the difficulties of the course and I was there with a World Record in my hands!!! Super happy and proud about my performance!
