Recently emerging from the shaping bay, JP’s new M-Winger Pro is a versatile board that offers its rider the best of both the light wind winging and performance downwind SUP foiling disciplines. Vinni Martins is a bit of a ninja at everything, so who better to tell us more…

The M-Winger is the first version of this kind of mid-length board that JP have launched. We already had the R-Winger, which itself is a very good board for light winds and getting flying early, but the M-Winger has a very different DNA. Even though it’s a longer board than the “R”, it allows you to fly with even less effort, and the shape of the bottom and especially the tail allows you to turn the board extremely well, making it the most playful and fun long board I’ve used so far. It depends on the style of riding I want to do, and the conditions on offer, but in general I want a board that feels very well connected to the foil, meaning the rocker line, the deck shape and the foil box position all fit smoothly into something that allows for an intuitive and natural kind of riding style. When competing in the Wingfoil Wave World Tour I look for a board that allows me to do radical turns but will still be forgiving and release well when landing an air or hitting the white water. This is why I’m definitely planning on bringing an M-Winger with me for the next stops of the world tour, to use in case the wind is light. I generally use the same board for training as I do for competitions, but if the wind is pretty light I might take a slightly bigger board out in a competition than I would in a free session, just to be sure… 💎 Premium Content Ahead! 💎 *You will receive our weekly Friday Pump newsletter, plus the latest features, gear tests and giveaway announcements. I like to pair the M-Winger with the NP FireFly Pro Wing and the Swift 600 Carbon Set, with the 60cm fuselage. That would make for a dreamy light wind wave session. I didn’t get a chance to help on the R&D side for the M-Winger, as I was traveling a lot last year to camps and competitions, so I didn’t manage to get hold of a prototype. The designer, Werner Gnigler, showed me the files on the computer a few times, but I was not directly involved in the R&D of the board. But Werner, Marko and Daniel did an amazing job, they should be very proud. I’ve mostly been riding the M-Winger at home in the northeast of Brazil. I had one session during the NeilPryde/JP photoshoot in Brazil. at a spot named “Lagoinha”. The wind was pretty light, but the waves were super long and fun. That day I completely fell in love with the board, I don’t think I would have had so much fun if I was using any other gear. If the conditions are ideal, with strong wind and good waves, I will normally use the S-Winger 44L. If the wind is a bit more on the lighter side, or if it’s a freestyle session I would use the F-Winger 55L. If the wind is pretty light with no jumps, just surfing or cruising, then I will always opt for the M-Winger.This is premium magazine content, usually only available to our subscribers, but you can access it for free when you join our mailing list!
