Inbound: RRD SILVER LINE

RRD now have a clearly delineated lineup, defined by their color categorization. Recently introduced was their “Silver line” construction, with the new Beluga ML board as one of its highlights. To find out all about both, we paged RRD HQ in Italy…

What was the main objective behind introducing the new Silver Line construction into the range?

The main objective behind introducing the new Silver Line construction was to offer riders a balance between high-performance technology and everyday versatility.

While the BLACK Line represents the pinnacle of RRD’s board engineering – built around a precision-molded Super EPS core, HEXAgonal Innegra Carbon deck, and ultra-light biaxial carbon bottom for uncompromising performance – the SILVER Line brings pro-level materials and construction to a broader audience, making advanced responsiveness, durability, and refined control accessible for passionate riders in everyday conditions.

The SILVER Line features a precision-molded Super EPS core and Exagonal Innegra Carbon deck, reinforced in key impact areas with either PVC sandwich (smaller sizes) or wood veneer with carbon/fiberglass reinforcements (larger sizes). The bottom is built with S-Glass fiberglass for controlled flex and smooth ride, delivering a premium feel without the exclusivity of the Black Line.

For context, the ORANGE Line focuses on progressive performance with full fiberglass decks and wood veneer reinforcements, while the WHITE Line is designed for schools and beginners, prioritizing durability and forgiving flex. With these four lines – BLACK, SILVER, ORANGE, and WHITE – RRD offers a tailored solution for every rider, from elite competitors to learners.

Innegra Carbon is at the heart of the Silver Line deck. What does this Exagonal Innegra Carbon fabric allow you to achieve that traditional carbon or glass constructions don’t?

The exclusive Exagonal Innegra Carbon fabric (176 g/m²) is only available in RRD boards. This material combines high-tenacity Innegra fibers with carbon in a hexagonal pattern, delivering performance that traditional carbon or fiberglass constructions cannot match. The result is an ultra-rigid deck with precise flex reflex, giving riders an immediate, direct connection while maintaining the right amount of forgiveness underfoot.

The Exagonal Innegra Carbon provides strong impact resistance, allowing the board to handle high jumps and hard landings without compromising structural integrity. Paired with the 160 g/m² S-Glass fiberglass bottom, the Silver Line achieves controlled flex and a smooth ride while remaining lightweight and responsive. In short, this combination makes the Silver Line feel fast, precise, and reactive, offering a pro-level ride in both everyday and high-performance sessions.

The Silver Line uses a very deliberate mix of rigidity and impact resistance. How important was it to balance stiffness with durability?

This balance was central to the Silver Line concept. For us, performance isn’t about maximum stiffness at all costs, but about finding the sweet spot between rigidity, lightness, and durability.

A board that’s too stiff can feel harsh on landings and more prone to damage. Too much flex kills responsiveness and precision. With the Silver Line, the goal was to deliver a direct, reactive feeling underfoot while keeping the board strong enough to handle daily abuse and demanding sessions.

The Beluga ML is positioned as a mid-length all-rounder. How does the Silver Line construction complement this board in particular?

The Beluga ML in Silver Line balances performance and ease of use, making it an ideal mid-length all-rounder. Unlike typical mid-length boards that can feel demanding, the Silver Line construction provides controlled flex and impact resistance, resulting in a smooth, forgiving ride.

Riders notice how effortless take-offs become, how the board maintains glide through lulls, and how comfortable it feels in choppy water. This combination of responsiveness and stability makes the Beluga ML approachable while still retaining pro-level performance.

Compared to the more traditional construction, where will riders most clearly feel the difference when they step onto the Silver Line Beluga for the first time?

After months of development and final testing in South Africa, feedback was clear: the difference is felt immediately. Compared to traditional constructions, the Silver Line Beluga feels lighter underfoot, more reactive in take-off, and more direct in feedback.

Riders mentioned how quickly the board accelerates onto the foil. The refined stiffness of the Exagonal Innegra Carbon deck translates every pump into forward motion with less energy lost, making take-offs earlier and more efficient. Once flying, the board feels more precise and connected, with a cleaner response when carving or adjusting trim.

Light-wind performance is a big part of the Beluga’s appeal. How does the Silver Line construction help with early takeoff, acceleration, and maintaining speed through lulls?

The Silver Line construction boosts light-wind performance thanks to reduced weight and an optimized stiffness-to-flex ratio. Riders experience earlier take-offs because less energy is lost during pumping.

Acceleration is quicker, and once flying, the board maintains speed more efficiently through lulls. During testing, athletes reported needing fewer pumps to stay on foil, allowing longer glide in marginal conditions.

This board is aimed at a wide range of riders. Who will appreciate the Silver Line construction the most, and why?

The Silver Line is designed for riders who demand precision, performance, and durability, while still offering a smooth, confidence-inspiring ride.

Fast-progressing beginners will feel the benefits of easier take-offs and efficient glide, while experienced riders will appreciate the lively feedback and precise control that allow them to push limits.

Finally, what else is cooking over there at RRD HQ?

We’re currently developing a hollow, coreless wing foil board at RRD. Before bringing it to market, we’re refining it in our labs, combining advanced carbon technologies with innovative construction.

The goal is a board that is light, rigid, and impact-resistant, delivering high performance and durability. Let’s see what happens—but RRD is ready.
