The Lowdown

Jericoacoara is a fishing village in Ceará, Northeastern Brazil, with flat seas in the morning and waves in the afternoon. It’s also the main spot for the finals of the WingFoil Racing World Cup during the Jeri Wingfoil Cup festival in December. Vila Kalango, present in Jeri for 25 years, is the mecca of wingfoiling and the home of all the wingfoilers in the region.

Jeri Beach offers strong and consistent winds for eight months of the year, making it the perfect option for foilers seeking the warmth of Brazil, warm waters, delicious cuisine, and incredible days of sailing with the possibility of downwinders, wingfoiling, and foiling along the coast from Ceará to Maranhão.

For foilers who love a good adventure, Vila Kalango, part of the e* Group, relates to Rancho do Peixe in Preá, a beach 12 km away from Jericoacoara. This location offers the best downwind experience on the Terra do Vento, and the best part is that the hotels organize everything – you just need to show up.

World-class athletes like Mitu Monteiro and Fernando Mizo visit Vila Kalango and Rancho do Peixe every year to practice wingfoiling, surf foiling, and SUP foiling at the very best spots. According to Mitu Monteiro, Jericoacoara and Preá are the best places to wing in the world.

Foiling Set Up

Jeri offers constant offshore winds, good waves in October/ November, and the perfect conditions for race freestyle and waves. It’s ideal for wingfoil, prone, SUP foil and downwinders.

When is best to go?

Jeri’s best season is from June until the end of March. Early in the season the winds are light and pick up after lunch. From the beginning of July till December, the wind is offshore and guaranteed, giving an ample 15-35 knots, and from January till March, there are several days with lighter winds, at 12-20 knots, which is great for beginners or for tow-in practice.

No wind?

From June to March, foilers don’t need to worry about the wind – it’s guaranteed. From March to May, we have a period with some rainy moments, but the sports center is well-equipped, and it’s possible to do tow-in both at Vila Kalango (Jeri) and Rancho do Peixe (Preá). Additionally, it’s a time when the waves come in, making it great for surf foiling. At Rancho do Peixe, you can take advantage of the conditions for kitefoil practice.

Another option when there’s no wind is to enjoy the natural paradise that Jericoacoara offers, with tours through the sand dune park and lagoons, which are also perfect for a bike ride. Outdoor and adventure experiences are unforgettable alternatives when the conditions aren’t on…
